Drone Search & Rescue Class was a success at Midland FD

Fire fighters from the Midland Fire Department participated in drone search and rescue training with Darkwing Drones this past Friday. Pilots got to participate in a night flying exercise to sharpen their skills while building Midland’s drone response.

Pilots were also in attendance from Kannapolis FD, Albemarle FD, Mint Hill FD, Cornelius-Lemley Fire Rescue and Steele Creek FD.

I had a great time teaching our Drone Search and Rescue Class at Midland Fire Department. We had a great turnout from other departments who came out for the class. This video was part of our nighttime scenario. Drone teams located a lost hiker with their thermal camera. The students verified the thermal heat signature by using the high powered drone search light. They notified Incident Command and sent the hikers coordinates to the ground crew with UTVs where they rescued the hiker. Good Job team!
